French Bulldog Shop: Custom Pet Portrait gift set

If you're a French Bulldog fan, you've got to check out this cute website: FrenchieSpace.com. I painted a frenchie and created a stationery set and necklace using that painted image. The operator of this cute site has listed my info about how to place an order for a custom portrait. Here is the link to my listing: Amy's Creative Corner. Can't wait to paint more sweet little frenchies!

Custom Pet Portraits with their original image

Here a few custom pet portraits I have been working on lately. The one with the yellow background is Scout, who bless her sweet soul, is in Doggy Heaven. The portrait will be given to the customer's family for Christmas.

The little pug, Fernando, was the winner of the Halloween Pet Costume Contest Amy's Creative Corner held. The owner sent me her favorite photo of Fernando and by gosh by golly, Fernando is a cute little man! You can see all the contestants on my Facebook page: Amy's Creative Corner.

Handmade Gifts and Custom Pet Portraits on Etsy.com

I am experimenting with trying new ways of getting noticed on Etsy.com. Now that my digital photography class from Wake Technical College is complete, I will try to practice practice practice what I have learned and produce high quality photographs of my work. It's all about that little thumbnail that people (hopefully) see in the sea of millions of other artist's work. Practice makes perfect!

This Boxer portrait was painted for a customer from the Lemon Tree in downtown Wake Forest. They have graciously displayed a few samples of my work for me and are taking custom orders for me. This was my first one! :)

Gift Set: Portrait, Necklace and Stationery Set

The orders are coming in...people are catching on to the idea of getting the full package from Amy's Creative Corner. After I paint the portrait on a 6x6 size canvas, I use a printed image of the painted portrait for the pendant necklace with a resin coating and then I sew that image onto stationery cards to create a unique set of cards and envelopes. I am hoping that more people catch on to this pretty cool gift set. I think it's time I paint a more recent portrait of my dog, Mya, and create some stationery for myself! Sometimes gifts for yourself are just what you need. :)

Cozy for the Holidays with Handmade Scarves

I just can't believe it is almost Thanksgiving. I don't know about you, but I don't think we should hear Christmas music on the radio until AFTER Thanksgiving. Anyhow, regardless of my holiday music beliefs, I had the chance to take photos of my beautiful sister modeling my handmade scarves. Thank you Becky for a being a wonderful sport!

These scarves are available for purchase on my Etsy shop, www.amyscreativecorner.etsy.com. A cozy, unique and fashionable scarf would make a wonderful gift!

Junior League of Raleigh, A Shopping Spree...painting SOLD!

Very exciting news! A few weeks ago, I completed a painting to submit to the Junior League of Raleigh's Shopping Spree exhibit that had a theme of "Southern Menagerie." A couple weeks later, I discovered that my painting was selected and would be displayed and viewed by thousands of people at the Raleigh Convention Center! WOW!!!

And then, I discovered that someone purchased my painting! So that's awesome...someone in this world has a painting of a puppy plot hound sitting in the back of an old Ford pick up truck with three little pigs sitting next to him. I am so glad I had this opportunity to gain exposure for my work and my name. In fact, I am meeting someone who saw my painting at the show to discuss a custom portrait, just like the Southern Menagerie one, but I'll be using her own pup! Cool beans!

Creative Corner: COSTUME for the Day of the Dead 5k

So I took a day off from pet portraits to work on my costume for the Day of the Dead 5k hosted by Dos Taquitos Centro and the Boys and Girls Club of Raleigh. I had such a good time! My calves are pretty sore today, but the creating of the costume and the application of my face paint made it well worth it. Now back to pet portraits... :)

First mention of my work on a TV show!!!!

Amy's Creative Corner has had its first mention on a TV show in North Carolina! This is very very very exciting for me. My Carolina Today mentioned my Halloween pet costume contest on their show on Monday. Here is the link with the mention: http://www.mycarolinatoday.com/2011/09/chick-chat-halloween-sleep-issues/

Although they made it seem like the winner gets a free photography shoot, I am grateful they are giving me exposure and potential customers! I am hoping that this is just the beginning to more press for Amy's Creative Corner...

Custom Orders: bridal shower gifts

'Tis the season for bridal showers! I was asked if I created custom skirt aprons by a friend who was looking for a gift for her cousin's bridal shower. After I told her that I had never made one before and wouldn't mind showing her the outcome before she purchases it, she said "no way! I trust you!" So, I attempted to create a skirt apron similar to the one she liked a lot on www.anthropologie.com. I went to work using the grey and cream color scheme she asked for. Hope the cousin enjoys wearing her custom apron, my friend certainly gave me the kindest feedback!

And the teal colored one is for a coworker's bridal shower this evening. She loves to cook, so why not keep the spirit of the apron going! I also made her matching stationery, a set of 5. Hope she likes her gifts!

Latest Custom Orders in Amy's Creative Corner

So, I am happy to say that things feel like they are picking up for me somewhat. Or maybe I am trying new ways to advertise my work. I live and breathe my business...I think about it all the time. Falling asleep at night is sometimes difficult because I lay there and wonder...how can I get more exposure for my artwork or what can I do better? Oy!

It seems like Google has been a good way for people to find my work. I will continue to try out experiments and research what is best for Amy's Creative Corner. I have been busy with a few orders though, which is very exciting. Custom pet portraits and custom necklaces using that image from the portrait (which is what I'd love for people to want to purchase: a portrait, necklace and then stationery, all using the image I paint.)

We're getting there folks, just hang tight and spread the word! :)

Bridal Portrait Photography

It was my honor to be my friend, Shannon's "best lady girl" for her wedding. She was a beautiful bride and I got to take her bridal portraits before the big day. On the business front, I am really hoping that Yin and Yang photography get some weddings to shoot soon...my friend Ashlie and I are itching to get our cameras out to capture the lovely moments!!

Back in Town & Back to Work

I had a lovely trip across the country, well to Asheville, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and through states I don't really want to go back to...shall we say...KANSAS. Oy! But I managed to capture some pretty cool shots (many from the window of my car) and got to see my older sister and her wonderful family in Colorado.

I spent quality time (HOURS in ONE car! haha) with my boyfriend Michael, camped at Ojo Caliente and enjoyed their natural hot springs, ate delicious foods, hiked a desert trail in "bear country" and went to the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe. I can't say what the best part of the trip was. Seeing the National Nuclear Museum in Albuquerque was awesome and so was the cuban sandwich in Austin. Yup, I'd say overall, I had a pretty nice trip!

And what was really neat is that while I was gone, I had a few different Etsy transactions go through. So, today I started, completed and shipped the custom necklace orders. It felt really nice to have a business to come home to where I had orders waiting for me to fulfill.

Got the Nikon D7000!!!! And now WEST-BOUND!!!

I did it folks! I saved my money and purchased the sweet little Nikon D7000. Of course my first shot was my dog, Mya, but I plan to use it for wedding photography with Yin and Yang Photography, my artwork, things around town, travel, whatever catches my eye!

Speaking of travel...my boyfriend Michael and I are headed WEST after a wedding in the mountains this weekend. We plan to visit Austin, TX, Santa Fe, NM, Colorado Springs, CO and stop in places our hearts tell us to stop (or my camera for that matter!). Departure: 8.12.11 and Home Arrival: 8:27:11. I'll definitely be posting some of my favorite photos that I get on this journey.

In these two photos, Mya sits next to her portrait and I get a shot with my camera.

Cork it up!

For those of you who know me personally, you're aware that I love wine. So those little corks have made their way into my art! I used them for a friend's Bridal Shower for her trivet/hot plate and then used more for magnets which are on my etsy shop for purchase.

Thinking out loud here...my goals over the next couple of months are to save up money to buy myself a new digital camera and to give my website a face-lift. My friend Ashlie and I are in the process of building our photography business, where we will focus on weddings. It's called Yin and Yang Photography. While we work on our website and portfolio, you can visit our Facebook page. I will be sure to keep you posted on the latest developments with that!

For Amy's Creative Corner, I will eventually have a new website where all my pages will be consolidated and I will upload photos of my work more often, not just on my blog and etsy shop. The one I have now has done it's job...pretty okay for designing and maintaining it by myself, but I am in need of a real web designer soon. I think it will help A.C.C.!

Wiener Roast in Greensboro

Today was the Wiener Roast in Greensboro...and let me tell you...there were A LOT of WIENERS!!! They were being pushed in little doggy carriages, held like babies in doggy slings and backpacks, it was bananas. I did meet a lot of interesting and very nice people (and wieners!) though and that is always a bonus to doing art/craft shows. These events also make me feel good since everyone chipped in and gave donations to two main organizations: Almost Home Dachshund Rescue Society and The Dachshund Rescue of NC.

I painted a couple of dachshund portraits and turned those portraits into crafty little bits. And of course Mya had to get her pretty face in the photo shoot! Typical. I created candle holders, stationery, coasters, greeting cards, necklaces and boxes using the image of the portraits. I need to upload these babies onto my Etsy shop for all those Dachshund Lovers out there... www.amyscreativecorner.etsy.com.

Itching for more

So I just turned 26 and I feel as though this will be a good year. Maybe the free raffles, free portraits and complimentary gifts I have created will start to pay off soon. I am wishing that the word-of-mouth factor starts to ignite interest in Amy's Creative Corner.

Meanwhile, I will enjoy this beautiful spring weather and keep on trucking. Here are a few pieces of work I have completed recently. Custom pet portrait for the winner of the La Di Dogs raffle and other custom pieces.

Shop Local Raleigh

Yay!!! Super happy to be a part of the Shop Local Raleigh website and community. This site is awesome. It shares local businesses including arts, foods, retail, etc. Very cool.

Some of the latest portraits

I thought I'd take a photo of the painting with its original image I used for the portrait. The one of the labs is now hanging in Dos Perros, an eclectic Mexican restaurant in Durham. The other two were custom orders. With Mother's Day around the corner, I am hoping I get some orders in soon...they would make the perfect gift!

Artwork for sale at La Di Dogs

Wow!! Big things are happening in Amy's Creative Corner. The very kind owner of La Di Dogs pet boutique in Cameron Village has allowed me to display (and hopefully sell!) some of my pet portraits. She is also taking orders for custom portraits in her very cute store for me. AND I am very excited about this Saturday from 12-3, when I will be set up outside her store for a "Meet the Artist" event. I will be doing a raffle for someone to win a FREE custom pet portrait too! This will be perfect for a Valentine's Day Gift. Here are some photos of the inside of La Di Dogs!
